# Installing the Timed Clock app on your phone

> How to install Timed Clock as a home-screen app on iPhone or Android, and what's different from the web version.

Timed Clock is a Progressive Web App (PWA). It lives at [app.timed.co.za/clock-pwa](https://app.timed.co.za/clock-pwa) but installs as a real app icon on your phone. Once installed, it opens full-screen with no browser bars, has its own icon, and remembers you between sessions.

There's nothing to download from the App Store or Play Store.

## On iPhone (Safari)

1. Open Safari and go to [app.timed.co.za/clock-pwa](https://app.timed.co.za/clock-pwa).
2. Tap the **Share** button (the square with an arrow pointing up, at the bottom of Safari).
3. Scroll down and tap **Add to Home Screen**.
4. Confirm the name (it will default to "Clock") and tap **Add**.
5. Find the new icon on your home screen and tap it — it opens like any other app.

> **Important:** the install only works in **Safari**, not in Chrome on iOS.

## On Android (Chrome)

1. Open Chrome and go to [app.timed.co.za/clock-pwa](https://app.timed.co.za/clock-pwa).
2. Chrome usually shows an "Install app" banner near the bottom — tap it.
3. If you don't see the banner: tap the **⋮** menu (top right) → **Install app** → **Install**.
4. Find the new icon in your app drawer and tap it.

## Signing in

The first time you open the installed app you'll see a sign-in screen. Use your Timed email and password (the same ones you use for the web). The app remembers your session — you only need to sign in again if you tap **Sign out** or clear app data.

## What you can do in the app

- **Take a selfie + clock in / out.** The app uses your phone's front camera; you'll be prompted to allow camera access the first time.
- **GPS check.** The app captures your location at clock-in (you'll be asked for permission once). If your company has location validation turned on, this is what's checked.
- **Pick a shift** if you're assigned to more than one for today.
- **Manager mode** — if you have the right permissions, you'll see a **Manage team** button that lets you clock other employees in or out from the same device. Useful for shared kiosk tablets.

## Troubleshooting

| Issue | Fix |
|---|---|
| The install option doesn't appear | iOS: make sure you're in Safari, not Chrome. Android: wait a few seconds and refresh the page; the banner only appears once the page has fully loaded. You can also use the **⋮** menu → **Install app**. |
| The app shows a blank screen | Force-quit and reopen. If it persists, sign out, uninstall, reinstall. |
| "GPS not captured" pill won't go green | Open your phone's Settings → Privacy → Location, and make sure Timed Clock has permission. |
| "Camera not available" | Same thing — check Camera permission. |
