Branch QR codes

What the per-branch QR code is for, how to print one, and how to pair the mobile app to a branch using it.

Every location in Timed has its own QR code. Scanning it with the mobile app signs the device in as that branch (rather than as an individual user). Once paired, the device can clock employees in and out at that location without anyone signing in personally — the typical kiosk-tablet setup.

Where to find the QR code

  1. Open Locations and click into the branch.
  2. Click the QR Code tab. If you don't see the tab, see Troubleshooting below.
  3. The QR code is shown on the page.

From this page you can:

  • Print — opens the printer dialog with a print-friendly version.
  • Download PNG — saves the QR code as an image for laminating, adding to a poster, etc.

New locations get a QR code automatically when they're saved — there's no separate step to generate one.

Pairing the mobile app

On a phone or tablet running the Timed Clock app:

  1. Sign out of any existing personal user.
  2. Tap Scan branch QR code (or "Use this device as a kiosk", depending on app version).
  3. Point the camera at the printed QR code.
  4. The device is now signed in as that location.
  5. From now on, every clock-in and clock-out from this device is tagged with this location automatically.

To switch the device to a different branch, sign out and scan a different QR code.

Keep QR codes safe

Treat a printed branch QR code like a key to that location's clock-in device. Anyone who has it can pair a device to that branch, so:

  • Keep printouts where only staff can reach them, and don't post photos of them online or in group chats.
  • Collect and destroy old printouts when you replace a code.
  • Review the location's clock records if you think a code has been misused.

A branch QR code only lets a device record clock-ins and clock-outs at that one location. It does not give access to reports, settings, employee details, or any other location.

Replacing a lost or exposed QR code

If a QR code is lost, photographed, or shared where it shouldn't be, contact Timed support and we'll issue a new code for that location. After it's replaced:

  • The old QR code stops working immediately.
  • Print and put up the new QR code.
  • Re-pair every device that was using the old code.

Troubleshooting

Symptom Likely cause
Location has no QR Code tab The location doesn't have a QR code yet. Contact Timed support and we'll generate one.
Scan fails or the app says the code is invalid Try Print and scan the printed copy — some screens show QR codes too small or too bright for the camera. If it still fails, the code may have been replaced; check you're using the latest printout.
Clock-ins go to the wrong branch Make sure the device was paired with the right location's QR code. If it was, contact Timed support and we'll check the location setup.
Old QR code no longer works after replacement That's expected — print the new code and re-pair the device.

If you need to print QR codes for many sites at once, contact Timed support.
