A clock in app that installs straight from the browser

Timed Clock is a mobile time clock app that installs from the browser. Employees clock in on their own phone or on a shared branch tablet, and GPS and selfie checks flag the clock-ins worth a second look.

No app store, no download

Timed Clock is a Progressive Web App. It lives at app.timed.co.za/clock-pwa and installs as an app icon on the phone:

  • iPhone: open the link in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.
  • Android: open the link in Chrome and tap Install app.

Once installed it opens full-screen like any other app and remembers the employee's sign-in. Employees sign in with the same Timed email and password they use on the web. The steps are in installing the Timed Clock app.

Clocking in on a phone

In the app, an employee can:

  • take a selfie and clock in or out,
  • have their location captured at clock-in for the GPS check, and
  • pick a shift if they're on more than one for the day.

Managers with the right permission also see a Manage team button, which lets them clock other employees in or out from the same device.

A shared kiosk with a QR code and PIN

Not everyone has a smartphone, so a branch can share one tablet. Every location in Timed has its own QR code. Scan it with the app and the device signs in as that branch rather than as a person. From then on, employees clock in on it with a PIN, and every clock-in is tagged with that location.

Treat the printed QR code like a key: it only lets a device record clock-ins at that one location, and it gives no access to reports, settings or employee details. See branch QR codes.

GPS and selfie checks

Each clock-in can carry two checks:

  • GPS: was the employee within the radius set for that branch?
  • Facial: does the clock-in selfie match the employee's reference photo?

Each check shows as Pass, Fail or N/A on the attendance report. A failed check doesn't block the clock-in. The record is saved and shows up in the dashboard's Failed Validations widget. A manager can open it to see the location on a map and the clock-in selfie next to the reference photo, then decide. See why facial or GPS validation failed.

Phone and kiosk clock-ins sit alongside biometric terminals in the same attendance records, and feed late alerts, variance approval and payroll. See time and attendance software.

Data Free

With Data Free, employees use Timed without spending their own mobile data. It's set up for your company, and employees can get the instructions in their invitation to Timed.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a Timed app on the App Store or Play Store?

No. Timed Clock installs from the browser, using Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android, so there's nothing to download from an app store.

Can employees share one device to clock in?

Yes. Pair a tablet to a branch by scanning that location's QR code, and employees clock in on it with a PIN.

How does Timed stop people clocking in from home?

The GPS check compares the employee's location with the branch's location and radius. Clock-ins outside it are marked as failed and flagged for a manager to review.

Does a failed selfie or GPS check stop the employee clocking in?

No. The clock-in is saved, and the failed check is shown to managers so they can decide whether to approve it.

Why won't the install option appear on my iPhone?

On iPhone the install only works in Safari, not in Chrome. Open the link in Safari and use Share, then Add to Home Screen.
